This depends on where you live. My stepmother is a director of an assisted living. She is an R.N. and she is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. I know some places require this. It is a specific course you enroll in to become licensed.

I know that experience is the most important for these jobs. You usually need a background in sales and marketing, because it is a highly competitive industry as far as getting people to come live in these places. There are SO many of them and all of them are offering different perks and such.

Nursing homes may have different regulations than assisted living. It will depend on what the state requires.

It is the kind of job where you have to start out in some kind of business and marketing. That is pretty much a must. They want a good deal of experience in that area.

Experience in Human Resources, business management, etc. is also important.

I would check into your state’s licensing rules, and also look at job ads to see what they may require. If a nursing home is run by a state, it will be run differently than if it is a corporation or business.

Also nursing homes and assisted livings can vary quite a bit, depending on the service offered.
