You must be thinking about a Therapy Dog! Yes, they visit facilities. Some facilities even employ their own animal to assist residents with a variety of things like relaxation, reality checks, fine and gross motor skills, speech, cognizant skills.....etc.

I have Alzheimers and am elderly and use a Service Dog to help with the symptoms of the disease.

I think you mean to ask about therapy dogs. Service dogs don't particularly visit elder care or alzheimer facilities.

A therapy dog is trained, tested, registered and insured so that it can go to places like nursing homes, hospitals, schools, etc. to cheer up residents, or for social or educational activities.

A service dog is individually trained to perform tasks that mitigate the disability of his owner. He goes where his owner goes.

If you want to know how to get involved in a therapy dog program, or how to invite one to work with your facility, here are the websites for the top three therapy dog organizations in the US:

Are you asking how to train your dog to be a therapy dog?

Sorry but more information is required if you want a sensible answer.

Those are actually called THERAPY DOGS.

Service dogs are dogs who perform tasks for handicapped people.

I have two therapy dogs that visit Hospitals and other facilities. Not sure what else you want to know.

This depends on where you live. My stepmother is a director of an assisted living. She is an R.N. and she is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. I know some places require this. It is a specific course you enroll in to become licensed.

I know that experience is the most important for these jobs. You usually need a background in sales and marketing, because it is a highly competitive industry as far as getting people to come live in these places. There are SO many of them and all of them are offering different perks and such.

Nursing homes may have different regulations than assisted living. It will depend on what the state requires.

It is the kind of job where you have to start out in some kind of business and marketing. That is pretty much a must. They want a good deal of experience in that area.

Experience in Human Resources, business management, etc. is also important.

I would check into your state's licensing rules, and also look at job ads to see what they may require. If a nursing home is run by a state, it will be run differently than if it is a corporation or business.

Also nursing homes and assisted livings can vary quite a bit, depending on the service offered.

too much stuff to read.
If you have a question on health care facilities or you need a list of them contact the Elder Affairs Department in your state and also the Dept of Elder Affais in Washington, DC and they will send you a package of information from programs to lists of places where an older person could go to live.

You could try a free classified ads website like www.stumblehere.com for housing options in your area. I believe the direct website is http://stumblehere.com/search/subject-housing/search_where-city/.
